How it's done

press and hump molds

A variety of hand made plaster molds are used to shape and compress my work. This step is especially important for removing texture from the eating surface. This also allows me to make sculptures in series, where the press mold is used multiple times, while my process ensures each piece is unique.

lace and colored slip

The raw slab of clay is decorated with colored clay slip that is then layered with lace and stencil. This way the majority of finished design is applied before forming. Additional details may be added later with more slip. Clear glaze fired to cone 5-6 finishes the surface. All pottery is food safe and microwave safe. While also designed for the dishwasher, all pottery will hold up better over time with hand washing.
